The Mosaic development team has successfully implemented and integrated the process of automatic coretime renewal into the blockchain operation in the Devnet environment.
This development will soon be applied to the Mainnet as well – when switching to a coretime-based system.
The solution is related to the new resource model of the Polkadot network, which is based on the coretime system instead of the previous parachain slot auctions. Coretime is a “lease” of the relay chain’s computing capacity for a specific period of time, which allows a parachain to produce blocks and publish data to the network. Coretime is essentially, at a time, limited access to the relay chain’s validation resources.
Since coretime expires periodically, access must be renewed regularly in order for the parachain to continue to operate. The development team has now successfully integrated the use of the mechanisms provided by Polkadot into the Mosaic Blockchain runtime, and has also developed an automated process that reliably handles coretime renewal.
The update is significant in several ways:
The development is particularly timely in light of the expected transition from the previous parachain slot-based model to the coretime-based system on Mainnet in Q2.
